When the “SHTF” it’s too late…

If you watch the news then you know that right now it appears that the world as we know it is ending; mass unrest across the globe, regime changes through military coups or civil unrest, earthquakes, nuclear reactor meltdowns spreading its invisible poison into the atmosphere. Luckily as of right now we still have time to make sure all of our ducks are in a row for that worse case scenario. Like many of you I prefer to be optimistic, but I’m also a realist, and as a realist I know that there’s no better time than today (preferably yesterday) to prepare.

Many people feel that preparing for a survival situation means just having a pantry full of bottled water, non-perishable food stuffs, blankets, and first aid kits. While this may be true there are a few other factors that will mean the difference between failure, survival, and safety. Survival isn’t just having the neccessary kit to make it through whatever disaster strikes. You also need to prepare you and your family mentally and physically for such a disaster. In many survival cases the determining factor when it comes down to surviving or not will be the survivor’s mental state, or simply do you have the will to survive?

AS I WATCH TODAY’S SOCIETY SPIN BY UNCHECKED BY LOGIC AND RUN OFF OF THE FEARS OF THE IGNORANT IT PAINS ME TO SEE THIS. GIVIN THE OPPORTUNITY I WOULD CHANGE IT, BUT I AM NOT IN A POSITION TO CHANGE WHAT I SEE NOR IS IT THE TIME TO CHANGE WHAT I SEE. DESPITE THE VAST WEAKNESSES WITHIN THE FLAWS THAT WE AS HUMANS POSSES OUR NATION IS STILL STRONG, BUT ONLY STRONG TO A POINT. OUR COLLECTIVE EGOS HAVE CRIPPLED US WITHOUT REALIZING IT. MANY STILL DO NOT REALIZE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING. THE PEOPLE EXPECT THE DECISIONS TO BE MADE FOR THEM BY PEOPLE THEY DO NOT SUPPORT THROUGH THE ESTABLISHMENT THAT WAS SET TO PROTECT OUR RIGHTS AND OUR FREEDOMS. YET WE ALLOW THESE ELECTED OFFICIALS TO CHIP AWAY AT OUR RIGHTS, AT OUR FREEDOMS, AND AT OUR LIBERTIES, AND SAY THAT IS FOR THE COMMON GOOD OF THE LAW ABIDING. HOW IS IT GOOD FOR THE LAW ABIDING TO RESTRICT THE LAW ABIDING IN THE ABILITY TO CARRY OUT THE ORIGINAL PLAN OF OUR FOUNDING FATHERS WHEN THOSE THAT BREAK THE LAWS THAT INSURE NEW LAWS ARE MADE IN A VAIN ATTEMPT TO CURB THE EVER RISING CRIME RATE? Hollywood Star leans to the Right

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE
A Hollywood conservative has headed East. It’s “Freedom Concert” time
for Jon Voight. The Academy Award winner will join Sean Hannity in
Cincinnati and Atlanta this weekend to honor fallen soldiers and present
college scholarships to surviving children. Mr. Voight — a warrior
himself in many ways — has been cogitating about the state of America,
meanwhile.
“There’s a real question at stake now. Is President Obama creating a
civil war in our own country?” Mr. Voight tells Inside the Beltway.
“We are witnessing a slow, steady takeover of our true freedoms. We are
becoming a socialist nation, and whoever can’t see this is probably
hoping it isn’t true. If we permit Mr. Obama to take over all our
industries, if we permit him to raise our taxes to support
unconstitutional causes, then we will be in default. This great America
will become a paralyzed nation.”
Be outraged, Mr. Voight advises.
“Do not let the Obama administration fool you with all their cunning
Alinsky methods. And if you don’t know what that method is, I implore
you to get the book ‘Rules for Radicals,’ by Saul Alinsky . Mr. Obama is
very well trained in these methods,” he continues, citing a television
campaign critical of the Republican Party and contentious town-hall
meetings about health care reform.
“The real truth is that the Obama administration is professional at
bullying, as we have witnessed with ACORN at work during the
presidential campaign. It seems to me they are sending down their
bullies to create fist fights among average American citizens who don’t
want a government-run health care plan forced upon them,” Mr. Voight
says. “So I ask again. Is President Obama creating a civil war in our
own country?”
MEGALISCIOUS
She’s blonde. She’s the bomb. And she’s got important relatives. Meghan
McCain, the woman who brought va-va-voom to the Republican discourse in
recent months, will rock ABC’s “The View” Sept. 9 as the first guest
co-host for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, now on maternity leave.
Ah, Meghan. She was the one (as ABC reminds everybody) who told Karl
Rove, “You had your eight years. Now go away.”
Commentary is running amok online: You go, girl, they say. You’re just a
dumb blonde. Take on Joy Behar. Oh, and say “hi” to your dad. Which is,
of course, Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, onetime presidential
hopeful, war hero.
And what does he say?
“He’s very, very proud of his daughter,” a McCain spokeswoman tells
Beltway.
HAIL TO THEE
With cool fanfare, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) announced Thursday that a whopper, 3.3-inch hailstone fell July
16 in Vermont — deemed an official state record and adding, perhaps,
another wrinkle to the global warming argument.
The hailstone conveniently fell in the backyard of one Chuck McGill, a
NOAA meteorologist, who whisked it to the office for measurement and
photographs. But now what? The hailstone sat for weeks in the NOAA
freezer. Is it a has-been?
Not to worry. NOAA’s got it covered.
“Chuck’s taken it home again and put it in his own freezer,” chief
meteorologist Andy Nash tells Beltway. “These things can just sublimate
to nothing. You know, evaporate. Chuck’s determined to keep that
hailstone alive.”
LOCKED AND LOADED
The Second Amendment Foundation has accused MSNBC of “demonizing”
gunowners, says Alan Gottlieb, the Bellevue, Wash.-based group’s
founder. The segment shows a figure toting an AR-15 rifle outside the
national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where President
Obama spoke earlier this week.
“There are Second Amendment rights, for sure, but also there are
questions about whether this has a racial overtone. I mean, here you
have a man of color in the presidency and white people showing up with
guns strapped to their waist,” anchor Contessa Brewer says in the
report.
“What MSNBC purposely did not reveal with the deliberately doctored
video is that the man carrying that sport-utility rifle was an
African-American,” says Mr. Gottlieb. “Yet all they showed in a brief
film clip was a close-up of the rifle against the man’s neatly-pressed
dress shirt. It was impossible to tell the man’s race. This is a
detestable attempt to manipulate public sentiment.”

How I see this playing out…

There are many theories out there to what the next 4 years are going to be like and what the country will look like after the next 4 years. Well here is another. There have been numerous plans put in place by people in the know to protect from a number of these theories. However a simple phone call or pen to paper to circumvent these measures.

One scenario is that illicit material such as biological or radiological material would be smuggled across one of our many pourous ports of entry and detonated in one or many of our major metropolitan areas. Of course this will mean total lock down and another war in another country somewhere around the world. However, there are two problems with this. For one troops fighting in a foriegn country there would be no troops to enforce the martial law that would follow such an attack. One or two options from this point… One spread our forces thin and institute a draft because we all know how well that worked last time. Second option is send all our boys to some hell hole to die and bring in UN/NATO “Peacekeepers”. The latter of which is the more plausible especially with the Posse Commitatus Act.

There is one thing I left out though. The actual “attack” itself. It will be presented to the mass media as an attack by either a) an islamic terrorist organization or b) right wing extremist / home grown terrorists. Seeing as how our current administration has made an overly obvious practice of apologizing to the muslim world that is not very likely to be their target.

So when this does happen stand-by to stand-by. Expect curfews, rioting, looting, personal firearm confiscation among others.

I’m not going to tell you how you should prepare. You know yourself and your community and your situation well enough to know, or atleast should. Be prepared. Don’t advertise to people what you have, where you have it, or what your exact plans are. If you have people you trust make sure you really trust them before you clue them in. The best plan is to remain under the radar. Don’t let them see you coming.

“Bugging Out”

First off let me apologize for not sticking to the intent of this blog up to this point. My main objective was to tell you the readers about my experiences with survival and not just an outlet to rant and ramble about politics and the state of the nation. So without further adieu…

There are some crowds out there that will tell you “bugging out” is bad juju. That you will be out there on your own living out of a bag, box, vehicle, or prepositioned cache’s. Other camps say that it is a fool-proof fail-safe. I myself have always been in the middle of the road between the two groups. There is a time and place for everything. However, having your gear ready and collecting dust in the closet is not the best way to go about things. Like most survivalists will tell you: break out your gear a few times a year and check it over and make sure it is all still good to go.

Day 1:

Well here recently I got rid of the majority of my military surplus type camp gear. got something that looks a little less intimidating and wont sky-line me as bad in the event I did need to bug out. So over 4th of July weekend of 2009 I decided to have a bug out practice exercise. I loaded up the BOV with all sorts of goodies and creature comforts and gadgets that I currently have that would possible be useful (Like most with a fully stocked BOV). From there I filled up the tank and two 10 gallon jerry cans fully of go-juice and drove 600 miles (used full tank and 10 gallons of gas). At this point in the trip I’m near Colorado Springs and find a place off in the woods to setup camp before it gets dark. So far no problems.

So lets recap day 1: Drove 600 miles and simulated out of fuel scenario. Setup camp outside a major city at dusk and attempted to hide any light my small camp stove would put out. Rocky uneven ground in an area I am not familiar with = bad nights sleep.

[Now, on this trip I did not take any firearms. Dangerous yes, stupid probably. One thing you have to remember that if you wait till a TEOTWAWKI situation there will be either military or police check points everywhere. So with that in mind try to have a place picked out already to bug out to and have sufficient supplies cached there. One technique I've seen is taking a 5ft length of 3" thick wall PVC, loading it up with whatever supplies you want in it then sealing both ends. Youll want to put some sort of way to retrieve it. So some foil duct tape and the plastic bands that you find on pallets and mre boxes work great. After that bury it to about arms length if possible. Vertical or Horizontal positioning is really up to you. If theres metal in it the deeper the better incase you get people in that area with metal detectors.]

Day 2:

Broke camp, checked supplies in my main pack and patrol/”day” pack. (I prefer ultra-lite backpacking which means a standard daypack becomes a 3-4 day pack) So now I am in unfamiliar territory at the base of a mountain with just the supplies on my back and a plethora of goodies in a BOV that has no fuel. From here I move the BOV to a more hidden position and camoflauge it accordingly to prevent any looters that may wander by. (Side note: I prearranged permission with the areas that I was going to prior to executing this practice bug-out) By this point it is about 9am local and I’ve not acclimatized myself to the altitude but start the hike up the mountain anyways munching on cliff bars, trail mix, and dried fruit along the way. It took me about 2hrs with 120lbs of gear on my back to cover 4-5 miles of easy terrain that rose in elevation by about 250 ft. The next three hours I covered about 2-3 miles distance and 2,000 ft in elevation. By this point I’m starting to second guess some of the gear I brought and thankful I didnt bring the rest. It took me till nightfall to reach an area that was acceptable to setup a shelter and get some shuteye. Sadly I had only got another 5 miles after the elevation leveled out again. The shelter that I made was using small dead trees that had already fallen and leaning them against a boulder then lashing them together with 550-cord / para-cord.

Day 2 Recap: Know your limits, know the terrain you’ll be on or atleast have a vague idea. Also, high elevation + asthma = horrible hiking.

Day 3:

From here its downhill (literally down the back slope of the mountain). I made good time to some lakes that I had found on a map. It was nice and secluded caught a couple of bass and a catfish which made for an excellent dinner. The bass I threw back because they were still too small. I used the fishing line, sinker, and hook that was in a small survival kit tin that I purchased from brigade quartermasters. Nothing much to really recap on day 3 other than look at a map of where you’ll be travelling through and know what to expect.

Day 4:

Stashed my gear and took the patrol pack to scout the surrounding area. It rained heavily and even had pea-sized hail. Eventually made it back to camp tired and exhausted. Covered probably 15 miles. Didn’t feel like cooking so I broke out an MRE.

Day4 Recap: Always, always, always, always have some sort of incliment weather gear. (I had a gortex jacket and pants I got from surplus)

Day 5:

Headed back down the mountain. This went a little bit smoother than the way up. Broke camp at day break and got back to the BOV (untouched and still hidden) about 6 hours later. That includes stopping for an hour to eat lunch and just really take in the wilderness. I made camp near the BOV and the next day filled up the BOV with the remaining gas to get me to the next filling station to top her off and head back home.

To wrap it up:

All in all it was a relatively successful bug out. No injuries other than a few cuts and scrapes. However, I was definitely not moving as fast as I would want to be moving if it had been an actual emergency. What this did prove to me was that in the event of an emergency I could make it on my own long enough to get to friendly door steps.

In the end isnt all that really matters survival?

We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program.
Even gun shop owners didn’t know about this because it is flying under the radar..

Basically this “little” piece of legislation would make it illegal to own a firearm – any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

.It is registered
.You are fingerprinted
.You supply a current Driver’s License
.You supply your Social Security #
.You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
.Each update – change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25
- Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.
There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Guns must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

The Government would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

In this day and age we will soon be required to go back to a more effective method of taking care of the excess fat steadily growing around the arteries of this…. once great nation. Our politicians and decision makers are locked in indecision. Locked into an inability to determine which pocket to line next with kick backs from corporate giants and both left and right wing activist groups who have the money to buy a vote from time to time.

We must learn to become self sufficient and not rely on those who only rely upon themselves and their bank rollers to take care of their own wants and indescrections.

Live free… live unburdened… live Off the Grid… Go to Ground…

Now is as good of a time as any other for culling the herd. Cutting off the fat of the land that has begun to weigh us down to the point of where we are immobile.

I have had it up to my eyeballs from all the BULL excriment from the Liberal Left-wing “anti-conspiracy” nut jobs. I actually heard on the radio over this past weekend…. Veteran’s Day Weekend no less!!!! They actually had the cajones to attempt to “factually” state that we have lost more troops on the war on terror than in WW2, Korea, or Vietnam……

Well…. Let’s take a look at the numbers shall we? (These numbers come from multiple sources, both civilian and DoD and then averaged between them, don’t like it do the research yourself and quite your bloody bickering to yourself or you’ll have some bloody nickers to bicker about)

Iraq – 3,860 (since 2003) Afghanistan – 465 (since 2001) [GWOT - 4,325] 6 years (720/yr)

Vietnam – 58,193 (1959 – 1975) 16 years [3637.06 avg per year]

Korean War – 33,741 (1950-present) 57 years; [1950-1953 Armistice; 8435.25 avg per year]

World War II – 407,300 (1939-1945) 6 years; [67,883.34 avg per year]; D-Day/Normandy- 132,000 [5,500/hr]

Ok, so now you have the numbers…. I really do want to know what kind of math these people are using, because i could have swore that 4,325 was less than 58,193; 33,741; or 407,300. Now I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed… being in the military and all, but C’mon! You can look for yourself, we lost more in the first hour of Normandy than we have in the entire 6 years on the War on Terror. Let us not forget that this is also the shortest war the American military has been engaged in in over a century. Just 6 years! The Korean War (Forgotten, but not gone) is still ongoing! We are still at war with North Korea. So anyone that does not agree with me, get bent. I don’t have to like what you say, just protect your right to say it. Now this does not mean that you can say whatever you want whenever you want. You do need to also exercise restraint and decency. Protesting at Veteran’s funerals? You’re lucky you don’t get shot. I know if it was my son they were putting in the dirt and you were out there with your sign’s….. You would pray for death long before it came to you.

So, for all of you liberal left-wing nut jobs that feel that things are so horrible over here and so good everywhere else in the world let me buy you a ticket to one of these places that have it so much better. or better yet, let me get you on a flight to Ramadi, Fallujah, Karma, Nassariyah, Baghdad and go out on patrols with the troops… Are you afraid? You shouldnt be. Statistically speaking you are safer on a Combat Patrol in Al-Anbar province of Iraq than you are in any of the major centers of population in the United States. Detroit has had a higher death rate contributed to violent crimes this year then all theatre of operations for the Global War on Terrorism….

We’ll continue this rant another time. I realize that this is off-center from the general topic of this web log. But this has really just erk’d me something fierce.
